German Translation Bureaus Benefit From Government Funded Research

From a language translation standpoint, the end of a decade has little importance. Even though a new decade isn’t a significant event for most people, it provides a good opportunity for each one of us in the translation field to analyze where new discoveries have been made that will drive demand in our profession for years to come. Two areas that have rewarded translation workers well even in a tight economy are the specialties of Medical Translation and Scientific Translation in research industry. We know that translation workers with a formal education in science or medicine are in short supply and command the best salaries when they seek employment that utilizes their knowledge. That’s why we’ve devoted this article to exploring emerging opportunities in these areas.

The world is full of people who are skeptical about the future and who believe that there are no more great discoveries that are left to be made. But as translation professionals, we have witnessed a growth in the number of projects that have come from discoveries made in the medical, biotechnology, genomic, and space technology fields that have kept us busy for months and provided attractive salaries. My own experience has given me the opportunity to make translation contributions in the fields of space exploration, DNA mapping, medical technology and green energy. When the concept of The Human Genome Project (HGP) was first introduced, the scientific community and public had high hopes that the investment would produce ground-breaking reports that would explain our world, reveal how our bodies function and provide cures to conditions that range from autism to stroke. Another scientific project that required an investment in the billions of dollars was the Large Hadron Collider that will help answer questions about matter, antimatter, black holes, dark energy and extra dimensions.

But regardless of all of the great minds and billions of dollars that are invested in scientific discovery, the results often fall short of reality. As an example, I believe we have all heard news that while the genetic mapping process is complete it has revealed far less useful information than scientists had anticipated and it will take decades for the information to provide utility. In addition, the data gained is much more difficult to interpret and make use of than anyone had imagined. Regardless of when the world might see a payback on its investment, the scientific and medical communities have learned a great deal about the composition of human beings.

If on the other hand, you are one of the hundreds of French and German to English Translation professionals who play important roles in the translation of research projects related to the LHC, then you know that the project hasn’t lived up to expectations. Since its opening, the project has been plagued by delays, bordering on the absurd when it had to be shut down for repairs just days after finally firing up. The fact remains that while the LHC is years away from operating at the power it needs to discover the Higgs Boson Particle, scientists continue to believe that the collider will provide amazing information.

Aside from the LHC, Genome Mapping and new medical breakthroughs, the one project that required the most translation work was global warming.. All over the world, articles are being written, research is being conducted, surveys are being constructed and data is being translated by geologists, biologists and skilled translation workers. By working in conjunction with scientists, many translation workers are finding lucrative work opportunities and the chance to make exciting discoveries. Now you can see why Japanese to English Translation workers find the field of scientific translation as a very honorable and respected way to make a living.
