There is no sign of stopping recruitment as the center still need more people. Six positions are available and it includes an orthopedic spine surgeon, a family medicine position and a radiologist. One of the reasons why there were many recruits was because HMC implemented a hospitalist program that October. This program will provide health care to inpatients especially from those outside of Hays who might not have a local primary caregiver.

 

With the creation of the program came openings for six physicians, four of which have been filled the year before. Negotiations were also successful that resulted to the hiring of a fifth physician, and HMC had the program fully staffed by the end of that summer. With the hospitalist program, they have more physicians starting in a one year period than they typically would. In that year alone a big group of physicians were working for the hospital.

 

The recruitment process turned nationwide for the hospital and soon they needed online communication to attract more people. The shortage of medical professionals is expected to reach its height in 2020 which makes it harder to hire people. More people need to work hard when they are recruiting says the director. You can hold tours for the new recruits so that they can see the hospital and what it has to offer. The hardest thing is just to get someone to take that leap and come and visit. In case they make the trip they will be able to see their facility, meet the medical staff, see the community and all the different things they have going on. And they will realize they’re much more dynamic than what it may appear when you look at an Atlas.

 

How well the person fits in the community is one thing the recruiters consider. Also it is important to consider the excellent credentials, and a fit into the medical center and their particular practice. They also realized that it is physician recruitment and retention is the two main things that they have to be successful at. More so then other places they need to work double to get noticed by others and so far, they’ve been successful at that.
