For a lot of people, it can be tough to choose from all the different Careers that are existing out there. For some, they might not want or have need of a secure career that is there all the time for them – rather, they may want or even need something a little irregular, just something to do every now and then to get a little bit extra money. If you struggle with your Career ideas and have no idea what you want to do with your life, you might want to consider taking up various jobs that are accessible when there are large events and competitions being held. Fairly often big events will generate New careers on their own – this year’s World Cup is expected to generate around 80,000 jobs in South Africa, related to tourism and construction. They also generate a lot of temporary jobs as well, which are perfect for people who either aren’t searching for New careers and just wish for extra money, or for people who are just looking to do something a bit different. Here will we look at some of the different jobs different events can generate for people.

Any large event that is held, from something like the World Cup, or a big concert, to something like a local community fair, all demand security. For the key events, security is a huge thing. It is a big concern in South Africa at the moment – not only do we still have the enduring risk of terrorist attacks, South Africa is notorious for its political instability and high crime rates. As a result there has been a massive interest in the level of security existing here. Having a job as part of the security for an event like this will mean you are able to travel the world a bit, and get access to a lot of the major matches of the World Cup. Also, security is needed at concerts and events, to ensure the security of the public. Taking a job in security of course does pose some danger to your wellbeing, but normally you shall receive full training and be set to deal with almost any situation.

Other jobs (which to some will be just as essential as security to these events!) include caterers and bar staff. People get hungry and thirsty, and if the event is going to run for a while, food and drinks will always be on offer. So someone has to be there to serve them up! This kind of work permits you close up access to events, without the element of danger that comes with the security role. If you are a caterer, travelling about to these events can allow you to taste and try out local dishes, so you gain experience of dishes you might not have had an opportunity to experience otherwise.

So as you can see, if you’re undecided on your Career ideas, or you’re not even searching for Careers as such, you can still do work which will get you valuable experience, and let you travel about and visit new places, and also take part in some cool events!
