My Personal Disaster With Career Choices And Finding Where I Failed
Written by Admin on June 15th, 2010Does anyone else conclude that getting New Careers is too tough and stressful? For the last couple of months I have been rather stressed and irritated. Why? Well it’s because I’ve recently been thinking of Career Ideas and have made a choice on starting up a self employed job in online marketing. The dilemma is, with numerous bills to pay the change over from my current job isn’t easy, so temporarily I’m working two jobs and have next to no free time, and it looks to remain this way for a quite a while until I can get sufficient clients up and running. So how did I wind up in such a tight spot? For those who are interested enough to continue reading, I’ll explain how.
My issues began while employed at a call centre, supplying support for a digital television service. The role was unpleasant, the company was horrible to work for and the managers all had their pet favourites, dividing the remaining staff with the rough end of the stick. As far as Careers go, this shouldn’t even be considered as one, I can’t picture many people continuing in a role like that. Things went even further down hill there and I ended up losing my place there, the most worrying part was, I had quite recently bought a new car on finance and had a holiday to the Canary Islands coming up in 1 month time.
So as you can probably tell, me and my fianc? were not doing too well for money and I found my stress levels increasing. Coming across New Careers throughout the recession was not a friendly task, but I finally found a place in online marketing. The role was perfect and just the thing I had been looking for, but more problems ahead, there was initial training needed. This was going to delay my ability to make money and even after finishing the training, money wouldn’t come in right away, it takes time to get results with a client. I was forced to revisit the job search, not for New Careers, I wasn’t going to let this opportunity go. No, the job search was for something basic to earn some money in the mean time.
So I finally came across another call centre role, not hard considering there is hundreds out there. However, that “mean time” is taking longer than hoped for. Six months later I’m still in the call centre as there’s just not nearly enough time in the day to work two jobs. Whoever thought 8 hour working days was a bright idea surely didn’t work them himself. My Career Ideas haven’t changed yet, I’m determined to make the online marketing role work out, it’s just difficult not having any spare time and not having any money due to the debts that racked up while out of work.
If there’s something to take in from this story, it would be to be balanced with your finances and don’t concede on your Careers if you discover something you truly want to do. I realise it can be easy sometimes to just take out credit for a new television, a holiday or a car, but anywhere you can, try to save up instead. It’s always best to have as little debt as possible as you can never be certain when the worst will happen.
